In the last quarter, the Arizona Democratic Party has extended a generous donation of $10,000 to Rep. Ruben Gallego’s Senate campaign, which holds significance as he readies himself for a potential three-way battle in Arizona, a swing state, to secure Independent Senator Kristen Sinema’s seat.
Federal Election Commission (FEC) campaign filings unveil that the Arizona Democratic Party made two payments of $5,000 each to Gallego on September 30. This contribution reflects substantial support from the state organization.
Among the contenders for Sinema’s Senate seat is Kari Lake, the former Arizona gubernatorial candidate who recently announced her Republican bid for the position. She is set to compete against Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb in the Republican primary.
While Sinema, who disassociated from the Democratic Party last year, has not yet officially declared her intention to run for reelection, recent activities within her team suggest she might be preparing for it. Reports surfaced last month, revealing that Sinema’s political team circulated a memo outlining potential voter support from Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, outlining her path to reelection.
However, recent polling indicates that Sinema’s journey to reelection may present challenges. A poll by Democratic-leaning firm Public Policy Polling earlier this month showed Gallego leading in a hypothetical three-way race, with 41 percent support. Lake received 36 percent, while Sinema secured 15 percent. A further 8 percent of respondents expressed uncertainty about their choice.
The Arizona Senate race appears to be a contest marked by uncertainty, as both parties vie for control of the Senate in the 2024 elections. Arizona, among a few other swing states, holds the key to determining which party will secure the majority in the upper chamber.
