The Rolling Stones marked the release of their new album with an exclusive club performance in the heart of New York City. The legendary rock icons concluded their show with a powerful duet alongside Lady Gaga, and the audience included prominent figures such as Daniel Craig, Chris Rock, Mary-Kate Olsen, and more.
The Stones delighted their fans with live renditions of tracks from “Hackney Diamonds,” which featured the highly anticipated Gaga collaboration, “Sweet Sounds of Heaven.” The new album, released that Friday morning, also showcased the first single, “Angry,” along with tracks like “Whole Wide World” and “Bite My Head Off.” Additionally, the Stones treated the audience to some of their classic hits, including “Tumbling Dice,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” and “Shattered.”
Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood took to the stage like old comrades, savoring every moment of the brief performance, which left the audience awestruck. The star-studded crowd included notable names like Trevor Noah, Jimmy Fallon, Elvis Costello, Diana Krall, Taylor Hill, Rachel Weisz, Christie Brinkley, Ed Burns, Keegan-Michael Key, Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds, Minka Kelly, Christy Turlington, and Questlove, who DJed before and after the Stones’ set. Andrew Watt, the Grammy-winning producer-songwriter renowned for his work with artists like Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and Ozzy Osbourne, also made an appearance.
Mick Jagger’s infectious energy saw him shedding his jacket towards the end of the performance, dancing and singing alongside an outstanding group of backing musicians, including the skilled Steve Jordan on drums.
Lady Gaga delivered a flawless performance during her duet with Jagger, earning a well-deserved standing ovation. The band and Gaga graciously bowed to their appreciative audience as they wrapped up the unforgettable set.
“Hackney Diamonds” marks the Stones’ first album of original music since “A Bigger Bang” in 2005. In 2016, they released “Blue & Lonesome,” a blues covers album that earned them their third Grammy Award.
The rock legends shared that they recorded 23 songs for the album, ultimately selecting 12 tracks for the final release. These songs were crafted in studios across London, Los Angeles, New York City, and the Bahamas. When discussing the album’s title, Jagger explained its essence by saying, “It’s like getting your car window screen smashed on a Saturday night in Hackney.” He also described the theme of the album as “angry and disgusted.” Charlie Watts, who passed away in 2021, contributed to two tracks, while original member Bill Wyman can be heard on “Live by the Sword.”
